The Difference Between Office 365 & Microsoft 365

In what Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella calls the “cloud-first, mobile-first world” you need more, and that’s why Microsoft combined Office 365, Windows 10, and Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS) to create Microsoft 365, designed to be your complete working environment every day of the year, no matter where you may find yourself working. You’ll need to expand your knowledge and skills to meet these increasing demands, expanding your career while you do.

Decades before Satya Nadella, newly-appointed CEO of Microsoft, announced that we were living in the “cloud-first, mobile-first” world, then-CEO of Novell Robert Frankenberg declared that work was no longer a destination, it was an activity. Both were decidedly correct.

Where is Your Office?

Office 365 was originally dubbed the Business Productivity Office Suite (BPOS) which was commonly pronounced “Bee-Pozz.” Realizing that nobody saw much meaning in that, Microsoft quickly moved to position the suite where it belonged, as the office that everyone would work, live, and play in every day of the year.

Many thought it was Office 360, your all-around resource. Others complained that even with all the productivity applications, data management, and communication platforms and other tools included it was still an incomplete solution because it lacked the operating system that everything worked on. If they were getting all of Office from the cloud, why not Windows too? Still others bemoaned the lack of management tools for mobile devices. You simply can’t please everyone.

But Microsoft refused to believe that, and came back with Microsoft 365 which adds Windows 10 and Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS) to Office creating the complete suite everyone was pining for.

This new platform provides everything any information worker needs to be productive no matter where they may be working; at home, in transit, at a conference center or hotel, or elsewhere. Even in the office!

Better yet, it also incorporates the all-important value of integrated security that literally anyone working with data always needs.

Where is Your Opportunity?

As a technologist supporting the technologies that people use to get their work done, you want to keep your toolkit as streamlined as possible, and Microsoft 365 delivers that to you. As it becomes the standard environment everyone works in every day they will need specialists who can support the entire platform. It won’t be enough to be a Windows specialist. They’ll expect you to know Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, OneNote and more. If their mobile device runs into trouble, that’s part of the fabric to them as well.

Microsoft 365 experts will support the entire user and all their tools. It will be perhaps the most comprehensive career opportunity for technologists ever, and New Horizons Computer Learning Centers has all the learning experiences you need to become that expert.
